This page is a description of the password manager interface and functionality.
The password manager interface is reached by clicking on the Manage Passwords link in the navigation bar in any of the other interfaces in the application.
The password manager interface is not loaded until the user chooses which password to edit.
The control bar offers two links, Database Password and Application Password. The Database Password link tells the application to change the password setting for the PostgreSQL database user, and in the application's cache of that password. The Application Password link tells the application to change the Application Password setting in the database, which is the password that is used to log in to the Application's web interface.
Once a choice of which password to edit has been made, a form loads for entering the new secure password in duplicate and the current password. A secure password is one which should be carefully kept track of, with the usual precautions of length, and a mix of letters, numbers, and symbols. Any password less than eight characters will be refused, while whether there is a proper mix of different types of characters is not enforced, but highly recommended. While the password is being entered, it is checked for length and whether the two passwords entered match perfectly. Warnings are displayed against a red background in the message bar. Once the passwords meet these criteria, the message bar goes white and notifies the user that the password has yet to be saved. Enter the current password to authorize the change and click Save.
The control bar offers a Save link that is disabled until a valid password pair has been entered, when it will turn blue and get an underline to signal that the operation is available.
The navigation bar offers links to Log Out, covered in User Manual - Log Out, Status covered in User Manual - Status, Manage Interfaces, covered in User Manual - Interface Manager, Manage Hosts, covered in User Manual - Host Manager, Check and Apply Configuration, covered in User Manual - Configuration Check, this Manual, and the Bugs report/support forum for skyPipes application users. If there are any unsaved changes, all the navigation links except Manual and Bugs (which open new windows) will ask for a confirmation before navigating away, giving the user a chance to cancel the navigation and return to their unsaved changes intact.
